Lily Allen has revealed in an interview that cruel comments about her weight left her feeling miserable and confused.
The Smile singer, who has been pictured recently looking extremely svelte, told Observer Music Monthly that the jibes often make her feel like packing in her music career.
"There were times I was so depressed and sad I couldn't take any more of it. I never thought I was a supermodel - but didn't think I was quite as unattractive as people said," she commented.
Allen, 23, said she subsequently battles insecurities about her weight and appearance to such an extent that she will no longer allow presenters to introduce her on stage in case she gets booed.
Remarks made in the press over the summer included jibes about the weight she appeared to have put on following a miscarriage.
Recent research by LighterLife found that nine out of ten people who are overweight have suffered from cruel comments made by other people.
