Although they may seem all rippling muscles and washboards stomachs, the Manchester United players have been ousted as a team of burger lovers by one former player.
Gerard Pique, who joined United in 2004 but now plays for Barcelona, said he was surprised by the junk food and beer culture at Old Trafford and commented that everyone seemed to eat whatever they wanted, including defender Rio Ferdinand, who he claims ate three packets of crisps after one particular defeat.
He added that the players were all subjected to a body fat test every 15 days.
"You would be amazed at how many top players practically broke the machine because their diet was based on beer and burgers," Pique remarked.
The Spaniard also said that manager Alex Ferguson’s Scottish accent was so hard to understand that he may as well have been speaking Chinese.
Ferguson’s men may wish to consider packing in the burgers and resorting to pasta if they need to lose a few pounds. They could also check out Alchemy eBusiness if they wish to investigate natural diet supplements.
