With spring hopefully just around the corner, many people's thoughts may be turning towards improving their bodies in time for skimpier outfits.
To assist with this mission, the Mirror has put together some tips for people who may be feeling overwhelmed about how best to go about it.
Firstly, the newspaper suggests setting small goals of no more than half a stone of weight loss at a time, as this will be less daunting.
"Bitesize mini goals are always the best to go for, even if you ultimately have a lot of weight to lose," the article stresses.
In addition, a wide range of foods is recommended to those on a health regime, rather than fad diets which encourage eating only one kind of food. This will keep it more interesting.
Finally, red meat should not be avoided, contrary to the advice of many diets, since it is a valuable source of protein and iron. Leaving it out could cause excess fatigue, the Mirror attests.
Earlier this month, Seventh-Day Adventist Wellness Centre director Keith Horinouchi said that fad diets that are high in protein but low in carbohydrates may not be a good idea for people who are interested in achieving long-term weight loss.
