Healthy dieters 'should lose 2lb a week'

People on diets should not aim to lose more than two pounds in weight a week, one expert has urged.

Leslie Beck, a Toronto-based dietician, told the Canada Globe and Mail that diets which are very restrictive in terms of calories can have a detrimental effect, potentially causing dehydration, tiredness and nutrient deficiencies.

She pointed out that rapid weight loss can also lead to a loss of muscle.

"When you lose muscle the body's metabolism slows down, making it more difficult to continue to lose weight and easier to gain it back," Ms Beck remarked.

Setting unachievable goals for weight loss could also lead to feelings of defeat and a loss of self-esteem, possibly resulting in further weight gain, she said.

Anyone struggling with weight loss may wish to consider weight loss pills such as Night & Day.

Fitness2k.com recommends choosing pills with natural ingredients such as these, as synthetic chemicals can produce severe side effects.
