Skipping breakfast 'is making Britons tired and unproductive'


Not eating a proper breakfast could be costing the economy as much as £22 billion a year through their tiredness resulting in a loss of productivity.

This is according to a new survey of 1,500 workers carried out by Express Holiday Inn, which discovered that over six million people never eat breakfast during the week, while more than half of respondents that do say they reach for unhealthy snacks such as chocolate.

The news comes despite the poll also finding that 46 per cent of people lack energy through skipping breakfast, while more than ten per cent take longer than two hours to reach full alertness after doing so.

Nutritionist Fiona Hunter added: "Aside from the effects on mental alertness, other research shows that people who skip breakfast are more likely to be overweight and describe themselves as stressed and also more likely to suffer from colds."

Research from the University of Surrey recently showed that it is still nutritionally sound to go to work on an egg, despite fears over increased cholesterol.
