A woman who was following a detox regime that involved consuming large quantities of water has died at her home.
Jacqueline Henson, 40, had drunk four litres of water in less than two hours when she went to her bathroom, was sick and collapsed.
She was pronounced dead the following day from swelling to the brain.
The diet involved cutting calorie intake to 500 a day for 12 weeks - less than a quarter of the recommended daily amount for a woman - and replacing it with soups, shakes and plenty of water.
West Yorkshire Coroner Roger Whittaker recorded a verdict of accidental death and commented: "No-one should drink water in the quantity that Mrs Henson did over that short a period. Little and often."
Last month, an article in the Jackson Citizen Patriot warned that detox diets could do more harm than good, especially for pregnant women, teenagers, diabetics and those with heart problems.
