Workers 'are being bullied over their appearance'
New research has revealed that bullying in the workplace is becoming an increasingly common phenomenon.
Fashion website MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk carried out a nationwide poll and discovered that 16 per cent of workers said they have been bullied at some point because of their appearance or size.
Office workers were the worst culprits, with over a fifth of such workers saying they had been subjected to cruel comments, while, perhaps surprisingly, teachers were next on the list of the most badly-behaved.
These comments could be having a significant effect on the population's workforce, with 70 per cent saying they have gone on a diet as a result of a colleague's remarks.
Jilly Tovey, spokesperson for the website, said: "To bully somebody because of their appearance, whether for their build or fashion is not only ignorant but also incredibly juvenile."
She added that managers should act to put a stop to such unacceptable behaviour.
The news follows research released in October by LighterLife which found that people aged 16 to 24 were most likely to use jibes towards larger people, with 56 per cent saying they had done so.
