The attitude that many people have towards saturated fat could be putting their heart at risk.
This is according to a spokesperson for Heart Research UK, who was speaking in response to recent statistics released by the Food Standards Agency.
It was revealed that although 94 per cent of people had heard of saturated fats, less than half said they take measures to reduce the fat content of the meat they eat, for example, by grilling it.
The source said that lowering saturated fat intake is an easy but important step towards having a healthy heart.
She added: "The fact that 48 per cent of people think they don't need to worry about the amount of saturated fat they eat is quite concerning."
The expert added that people should grill, bake, boil or poach food where possible instead of frying it.
Using olive oil or rapeseed oil could also help where frying is essential.
