Being overweight 'could increase breast cancer risk'
A cancer charity has warned that women of menopausal age who are overweight could be at a greater risk of getting breast cancer.
Pamela Goldberg, chief executive of Breast Cancer Campaign, said that the correlation has been proven and that women should take action to reduce their weight in order to cut their chances of contracting the disease.
However, she acknowledged that it may be difficult for older women to participate in the vigorous exercise that the organisation recommends, such as digging, fast jogging and hill running.
"We should not forget that there are still positive health benefits to consistent moderate activity such as walking, swimming, golf or gentle cycling," Ms Goldberg said.
According to Cancer Research UK, breast cancer incidence rates have increased by more than 50 per cent over the last 25 years.
