British workers 'not taking care of their health'

A study by healthcare provider Bupa has revealed that British workers are not taking as much care of their bodies as they should be.

In a poll, four in ten said they are overweight, while two-thirds said they are not getting the five portions of fruit and vegetables the government recommends we should consume.

Only a third said they exercise every day and more than two in five admitted to eating junk food once a week or more.

Meanwhile, 45 per cent of respondents said they are feeling stressed regularly, perhaps suggesting that people feel they do not have as much time for a healthy diet and exercise as they would like.

Dr Paula Franklin, spokesperson for Bupa, said: "People need all the support they can get to ensure their health and wellbeing remains intact. Employers need to respond to this and create an environment that encourages their workforce to take a more proactive approach to their health."

Being overweight can seriously increase the likelihood of suffering a heart attack or stroke. Anyone worried about their weight and its effect upon their health could consider attempting weight loss through a programme such as Night & Day.
