Cereal for breakfast 'could be good for slimming'


Eating cereal for breakfast could help people to form healthier eating habits, which could in turn lead to weight loss.

This is the conclusion of a ten-year study into the positive impacts of eating breakfast, which was carried out by researchers at the US National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

It was found that people who eat cereal also tend to exercise more, eat more fibre and consume less fatty foods and sugary drinks throughout the day.

Cereal also has advantages over other breakfasts since it provides more fibre, iron and folic acid, but less sugar and cholesterol.

"Eating cereal for breakfast may have implications for healthier eating throughout the day," the scientists commented.

Earlier this month, consumers were urged not to waste their money on so-called diet foods by Professor Michael Lean, a nutrition scientist at the University of Glasgow, who told the Mirror that such products are supposed to be healthy but may actually be full of fat or sugar.
