This is according to Dr Peter Mace, assistant medical director of Bupa Wellness, who said it is a great form of exercise.
"Making moves on the dance floor can be a great stress-buster and calorie burner. Even one dance a week can make a difference to your health," he commented.
The doctor added that these benefits could include reduced blood pressure and a reduced risk of heart disease, as well as having the potential to improve mental health because of its social nature.
A survey of the health of Britain's cities carried out by Bupa UK Health Insurance found that Birmingham has the highest percentage of people who exercise every day (42 per cent), while only one person in four did the same in Leeds.
