Anyone who is trying to lose weight or follow a more healthy diet should avoid doner kebabs, if new research is anything to go by.
A test of 494 kebabs carried out by the Local Authority Coordinators of Regulatory Services (Lacors) found that the average one contained 98 per cent of an adult's recommended salt intake and 148 per cent of their saturated fat intake.
Most examples contained around 1,000 calories, which is half the daily allowance for a woman, although some contained as many as 1,900.
In addition, this high calorific content was before any sauces and salads were added.
Geoffrey Theobald of Lacors said: "The level of saturated fat and salt in some is a serious cause for concern."
The news contradicts comments from Simon Langley-Evans, a professor of human nutrition at Nottingham University, earlier in 2009.
He told the BBC that the doner could be a healthy choice of takeaway because it contains lean meal, wholemeal pitta bread and vegetables from the salad.
