'Eat protein throughout the day' for best results


People should try to consume high-quality protein throughout each day in order to achieve the optimum health benefits, it has been claimed.

According to Susan Hewlings, a registered dietitian and assistant professor at Stetson University in Florida, a lack of protein could cause sarcopenai (loss of muscle mass).

She added that most people tend to cram in protein-rich foods for their evening meal, which can result in the body 'bingeing' on protein and not using its nutrients optimally.

"You should be including sources of high-quality protein such as eggs, milk and meats and balancing your protein intake throughout the day. It needs to be more evenly distributed," Ms Hewlings commented to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

However, she pointed out that people should take care not to consume too much fat. Although steak is rich in protein, it also contains around 44g of fat.

Salmon would be a better source, she recommended.

Earlier this month, the US-based Calorie Restriction Society claimed that despite the general consensus that an adult male should consume 2,000 calories every day, this is too much and that people can thrive on much less.
