Schools are sending out the wrong message by rewarding children with fatty foods for doing well in lessons.
This is according to Dr David Haslam of the National Obesity Forum, who said that children should be motivated by either healthy snacks or by organised outdoor games.
His comments came in response to reports earlier this week that a school in Stoke-on-Trent has been giving students who participate in extra revision classes takeaway pizzas.
"There's got to be a different way of rewarding kids giving them pizza and chips. What kind of a combination is that, it's complete overload," the doctor remarked.
He added that at exam times, the body especially needs exercise in order to have time to relax and absorb information.
According to the government's Change 4Life campaign, nine out of ten children will grow up to have dangerous levels of fat in their blood if nothing is done to prevent it.
