Food on the hoof 'causes unhealthy eating habits'

Eating food while on the hop from one place to another could cause people to eat more unhealthy food than if they sat down at the table.

This is according to research published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, which found that 35 per cent of men and 42 per cent of women do not have time for a sit-down meal.

However, this eating on the run was found to lead to increased intake of fats, fizzy drinks and fast food, whereas people who sat down and ate with their families were more likely to eat fruits and vegetables.

This could suggest that companies need to schedule in breaks in order to allow people to eat properly at work.

A recent study by researchers at Osaka University in Japan found that men who wolfed down their food were 84 per cent more likely to develop weight problems, while women who ate quickly were approximately 50 per cent more likely to become overweight.
