The government has launched a new campaign in order to get the nation more active and reduce obesity.
Part of the Change4Life scheme, the Be Active Be Healthy programme will see a number of different measures promoted to encourage people to take up more regular exercise.
These include the introduction of 2,012 more walkways across the country - to tie in with the 2012 Olympics - and more emphasis on the guided walks that already exist.
Public health minister Dawn Primarolo remarked: "We have to remove the 'no, you can't' messages
with more support, more encouragement and more opportunities across communities to get people active."
The programme came into being after a government investigation discovered that more than 27 million adults in England are not getting enough exercise.
A gentle walk could help with mental wellbeing too - Mind has found that 71 per cent of people felt less depressed after going out in the countryside just once.
