Ice skating 'a great brain and body workout'


With temporary ice skating rinks popping up around the UK, now could be the time to embrace the sport as a way of toning up and feeling great, one magazine has suggested.

Closer states that ice skating offers a number of physical benefits, as well as having the potential to improve people's mental health.

Firstly, skaters should see an improvement in joint flexibility if they do it regularly, as well as seeing their leg, thigh and bottom muscles becoming more toned.

In addition, it could improve people's balance and give them a gentle cardiovascular workout, the magazine said.

Not only this, but ice skating requires good concentration, memory and coordination, so participants should be giving their minds a workout too.

The Natural History Museum and Somerset House in London, Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh and the Centre for Life in Newcastle are all running ice skating rinks from this month until January, the Telegraph attests.
