Mexican food 'is good for you'


New research has shown that tucking into tacos and burritos may not just be delicious - it could help to prevent cancer.

New research published by Dr Bruce Hensel, an Emmy Award-winning medical, health and science reporter, suggests that the rate of breast cancer among Hispanic women who ate Mexican food was lower than that of non-Hispanic women, NBC reports.

However, the expert pointed out that Mexican food must not be mistaken for the westernised version, which includes lots of fried beans and cheese.

Instead, such a diet should include tomato-based sauces, cabbage, corn, squash and spices.

According to About.com, many authentic Mexican recipes are low in fat, including mango salsa, jalapeno corn cakes, champurrado and Mexican omelette.
