The Department of Health has launched a wide-ranging campaign aiming to combat the spread of obesity in the UK.
Led by health secretary Alan Johnson, the initiative will see £325 million go towards promoting healthy lifestyles.
In a surprise move, supermarkets including Tesco and Asda have promised to commit to the Change4Life movement, offering discounts on healthy foods.
"It’s unprecedented for supermarkets to join the government and pledge to cut prices on healthy food. But this isn’t an exclusive club. Anyone who promises to help families to be healthier can join," said Mr Johnson.
Earlier this month, the health secretary warned that 9,000 people now die of obesity-related conditions including diabetes and heart disease every year.
