People who carry excess fat around their stomachs could be more at risk from migraine attacks than their slimmer counterparts, new research has found.
According to a study carried out by researchers at Drexel University of Medicine, overweight people aged between 20 and 55 had more severe headaches than people with slimmer waists.
In addition, there was found to be a difference between the sexes, with 37 per cent of overweight women and 20 per cent of larger men reporting migraines, compared to only 29 per cent and 16 per cent of slim men and women respectively.
The study's author, Lee Peterlin, said: "These results
suggest that losing weight in the stomach area may be beneficial for younger people who experience migraine and especially so for women."
Dawn Primarolo recently said that weight-related illnesses which affect people's ability to work, such as heart disease and diabetes, will more than double by 2050, the Mirror reported.
