Obesity will be a problem 'for some time yet'
Obesity will continue to be a problem in the UK for some time to come, an expert has said.
Dr Carol Cooper, who specialises in obesity, suggested that recent advice to not throw out so much food may not help the issue, as people could end up simply eating more.
"If we eat it instead of putting it in the bin, we're not actually doing our health any favours," she remarked.
The GP added that people are already "reluctant" to waste food because it costs so much at the moment.
Between 1993 and 2005, the proportion of obese women in the UK rose from 16.4 per cent to 24.8 per cent, while a 13.2 per cent to 23.1 per cent increase was recorded among men, according to the NHS.
